Ever imagined a coastal city buzzing not only with sandy beaches and street food but also with some of the brightest young math minds from around the planet? Well, buckle up—Da Nang’s about to add global math hub to its résumé.
A Global Stage for Young Math Talents
This August, the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) makes its way to Vietnam’s vibrant Da Nang City—marking the first time ever the event is hosted here. From August 14 to 19, 2025, more than 40 countries and regions will be represented by their best young mathematicians, all under one roof. And it’s not just any event—it’s one of the most recognized math competitions worldwide for secondary school students.
Organized annually and rotating between member countries, the IMC isn’t just about crunching numbers. It’s a celebration of passion, intellectual curiosity, and the kind of star power that doesn’t require a spotlight—just a love for mathematics.
Why It Matters: More Than Just Numbers
Building Bridges with Equations
This event isn’t just an academic flex—it’s an international playground for future scientists, problem-solvers, and innovators. It offers a rare chance for brilliant young minds to:
- Challenge themselves intellectually
- Exchange ideas across cultures
- Foster creativity and critical thinking
- Establish lifelong friendships and scholarly networks
Math may speak in numbers, but IMC speaks the universal language of learning, ambition, and unity.
A Milestone for Da Nang
This year’s competition is a monumental step for Da Nang. With its debut as a host city, local authorities and organizers are pulling out all the stops to ensure a world-class experience—for both contestants and visitors alike.
The Da Nang Department of Education and Training, in collaboration with the Vietnam–Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) and global education firm IEG, are leading the charge. They’re joined by a strong local support crew, including the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Finance; Foreign Affairs; and even the local Food Safety Management Board. Now that’s some inter-agency synergy right there!
Planning in Full Swing
Laying the Groundwork
On August 4, key organizing committees sat down to review logistics, partnerships, and final preparations. These aren’t just planning sessions—they’re strategy sessions. Media teams are crafting outreach plans, cultural events are being choreographed, and school representatives are rolling up their sleeves to ensure every detail is on point for a meaningful and smooth experience.
Among the highlights:
- A well-curated opening and closing ceremony schedule
- Cultural exchanges and musical performances
- Comprehensive communication strategy for global reach
- Introduction of local tourism hotspots and unique “One Commune, One Product” (OCOP) goods
Leaders at the Helm
Nguyen Thu Phuong, Vice Director of Da Nang’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, President of VKU, are steering key organization subcommittees for communication and technical operations. Their mission? Ensure everything from logistics to participant experience meets high international standards. Safe to say—the city’s in good hands.
What’s Next?
From August 14 to 19, Da Nang will transform into a melting pot of youth brilliance. From challenging exams to enriching social events, the city will play host to an unforgettable intellectual and cultural journey.
